Para los mineros y tuneleros

Una expresión llena de sentido común de dos grandes investigadores en mecánica de rocas y obras subterráneas: "The basic aim of any underground excavation design should be to utilize the rock itself as the principal structural material, creating as little disturbance as possible during the excavation process and adding as little as possible in the way of concrete or steel support. In their intact state and when subjected to compressive stresses, most hard rocks are far stronger than concrete and many are of the same order of strength as steel. Consequently, it does not make economic sense to replace a material which may be perfectly adequate with one which may be no better." Evert Hoek and Edwin T. Brown (1980)
He encontrado dicha frase en un trabajo de otro gran investigador Palmström A.: RMi-a rock mass characterization system for rock engineering purposes. PhD thesis, Oslo University, Norway, 1995, 400 p.
